ALI IN WONDER(ENG)LAND
"You can really have no notion how delightful it will be,
When we take them up and throw them, with the lobsters, out to sea!
Ali arrives at the doors of a strange land but being allowed in isn’t as simple as it looks. Random questioning, people shouting “illegal alien!”, and to make things worse Ali’s body keeps changing size. Will Ali ever be able to regain control?
Co-created over a year of weekly classes with migrants and refugees at the Engine Room Tottenham Hale, Ali in Wonder(Eng)land is a whimsical and imaginative exploration of
migration through an absurdist and fairytale lens. Using Lewis Carroll’s classic tale as a frame, the show weaves personal stories, improvisations inspired by the Life in the UK test, and ensemble moments, with performers taking turns playing the leading role.

“Very funny but also so moving. Migrants deserve better. At times it made me ashamed of being British”

“Loved the concept. Alice in Wonderland is the perfect metaphor. Brilliant show, brilliant project.”
