tugging at the sea

This show is ABSOLUTELY NOT about boats. Promise. Can we say vessels?

Paper boats, of all sizes and colours. A strange island surrounded by fog.

Islanders spending their days making fog themselves… Their bizarre Leaders have convinced them they need to make their country impenetrable. “The Others” might attack… While on the other side of the sea, people dream of an ideal land. Who is the real threat?

After the success of Ali In Wonder(Eng)land, our community ensemble will return with another surreal, hilarious, yet deeply touching piece devised and created by participants in LegalAliens’ free classes for refugees and migrants

Using a fragmented narrative, physical theatre, songs and direct testimonies, Tugging At The Sea asks audiences to recognise the absurdity of the propaganda against asylum seekers. Thanks to a collaboration with visual artist Bern O’Donoghue, the stage will be covered in paper boats, as a celebration of shared humanity.

Created with support from Bedford Creative Arts. With thanks to The Engine Room.
Funded by The Supporting Arts Foundation, Arts Council England and Lottery Awards For All.
